Studies have shown that it's healthier to sleep in a cool space, but when summer rolls around, it can be hard to stay cold and still afford the electric bill. Luckily, there are some ways to beat the heat at night without turning the AC down so low that you can't afford it. Here at CreditBox, we've put together a list of our best ideas.

Close Your Blinds
On the hottest, sunniest days of summer, keep your blinds, shades, and curtains closed during the day. This can help ensure you stay cold and comfortable at night. This blocks out the sun that can warm your house up quickly.

Sleep Downstairs
Also, keep in mind that heat rises. If you typically sleep upstairs, consider moving downstairs to a sofa or guest room if that's a possibility, at least for the summer.

Take a Shower
Many people admit that taking a shower or bath before bed helps cool them down. If you can't tolerate a cold shower, a warm one may even do the trick. Leave your hair wet when you go to sleep for extra cooling. A shower or bath can be especially helpful if you wake up sweating in the night.

Invest in a Good Fan
You may not think a fan can help you stay cold, especially on the hottest days, but you'd be surprised. Position it right by your bed so that it blows right on you. Or, place the fan across from an open window to create cross ventilation.

Choose Light Covers
It goes without saying, but that warm comforter you use during the winter isn't ideal for summer. Consider investing in light covers — non-blended cotton is best — for those warm nights. You might even go for bedding meant to help cool you down. Pillows, sheets, mattress pads, and mattresses that claim to help with cooling are available in many stores that sell bedding.

Ditch the Thick PJs
What you wear to bed can make you hot, even if it feels cool. Consider buying pajamas that wick moisture away if you tend to sweat.

Eat Less and Drink More
Instead a big heavy meal, eat something light in the evening. If you overeat, your body uses more energy to digest the food. If you need a late-night snack, stick to something cold, like a popsicle or grapes that have been in the refrigerator. On the other hand, drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps to regulate your body temperature.

Sometimes it's just too hot to go without air conditioning, which can mean bigger electric bills during the summer months. CreditBox offers installment loans for those times when you may need a little boost with the bills. Apply now to get funded as quickly as tomorrow!
