Lollapalooza
Probably the most notorious of the Chicago summer music festivals, Lollapalooza occurs every year during the first weekend of August at Grant Park. Concert-goers can enjoy four days of music including the biggest names in rock, hip-hop, pop and electronic. You can buy tickets for individual days, or get a pass for the whole long weekend. Be prepared though, since tickets usually sell out as soon as they go on sale and can be a bit pricey.

From June 8th – 10th, you can enjoy the largest free blues festival in the world at Chicago’s Millennium Park! Sit on the lawn and enjoy blues music from living legends and local bands alike. The main events perform at the Pritzker Pavilion while the smaller acts play at smaller surrounding stages. The price and the location of this music festival cannot be beaten!
Country LakeShake Festival
Even in Chicago, there is a music festival for people who love country music. From June 22nd-24th, country music fans can listen to Blake Shelton, Florida-Georgia Line, and Dierks Bentley at Chicago’s Northerly Island. In addition to listening to the top country singers, attendees can enjoy great city views and even some carnival rides.
Milwaukee
Summerfest
Aptly named, Milwaukee’s Summerfest is recognized as “The World’s Largest Music Festival” and attracts between 800,000 and 900,000 people each year. Over a span of 11 days, this year fans can enjoy music from Florida Georgia Line, Dave Matthews Band, Halsey, Journey, and Def Leppard to name a few. With such a wide variety of music genres, this is a summer music festival you don’t want to miss!
Wisconsin State Fair
Though it is not as large as Summerfest, the Wisconsin State Fair is still an affordable way to enjoy great food and live music. Depending on which stage, some of the performances are even free! Located just west of Milwaukee in West Allis, attendees can enjoy the fair any day between August 2nd-12th.
St. Louis
Loufest
Happening at the end of August or early September, LouFest is a two-day music festival in St. Louis’s popular Forest Park area. There will be nationally recognized performers as well as the “Nosh Pit” where concert-goers can enjoy some of the best food St. Louis has to offer. There is also an area where guests can shop art, clothes, and other merchandise. If you still have time after all of these activities, visit the “Brewtopia” and enjoy a variety of local taps.
Fair St. Louis
Though not technically a music fest, Fair St. Louis lets you enjoy live music, food and fireworks all on the iconic Gateway Arch grounds. If you don’t already have plans for the 4th of July, this is the place to be! If you miss the 4th, you can still attend the weekend after on the 6th or 7th of July. The best part, it is all free so you can attend every day!
