Life can be expensive. If you don’t keep your expense in check your paycheck will be gone before you know it. CreditBox has come up with some tips to help you cut major expenses and stretch your pay checks.

Analyze your Spending
The first step to cheap living is to categorize your spending habits. The average person’s expenses normally consist of food, clothing, travel, entertainment and housing. To start evaluating how you are spending your hard earned money, you should start by taking a look at your past month’s credit card bill or your bank’s debit card transaction report. Your bill or report should be a good example of how much you spend on each category. Add them all up and take a hard look. There’s bound to be some areas of expenditure that surprise you. Keep them in mind this month and remember that all of those $10 and $20 transactions add up quickly! This exercise will be very beneficial in determining where you are over spending.

Watch What You Eat!
More importantly, watch where you eat. Once you’ve completed an overview of your spending habits it’s time to start budgeting. You will probably notice that your highest expense category is food. If you find yourself eating out a lot, you are wasting thousands of dollars. The key to saving on food is to buy in bulk if possible. Doing this will give you more bang for your buck and will also be a lot healthier than eating out every meal. Another cost saving tip is to avoid buying name brand foods due to the price inflation. The generic brands found in your local grocery store are for the most part the same product as your favorite name brands. Making these little changes will have a huge impact on your budgeting.

Having Fun for Less
Everyone has to have some fun sometimes. However, that doesn’t mean you need to break the bank on entertainment. For many people, entertainment consists of binge watching their favorite TV shows or movies. While watching your favorite shows is great you could be overpaying for your programing. Cable TV offers thousands of channels but, seriously, do you actually watch all of those channels? If you answered no, it’s time to cancel your cable. Options like Netflix, Hulu or Sling-box give you a plethora of viewing alternatives for a fraction of the price. If TV isn’t your thing, another great way to have fun for less is to look into community or city-held events. You will be surprised how many free events happen every weekend. From music festivals to art shows and free museum admission there is something for everyone if you take the time to explore the options. Cheap living can still be fun!
