The Gathering of Nations Pow Wow

In April, the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow brings members of more than 700 Native American tribes from across North America to Albuquerque. The public is invited to check out the three-day Pow Wow held April 25–27, which features Native American singing and dancing competitions, music and performances, vendors selling arts and crafts, a Native American food court, and more.

Mother's Day Music Festival

This free, family-friendly music festival in Taos honors moms on May 10–12. Live bands play everything from rock to Tejano music, and attendees can chow down on tasty eats from area vendors.

Summer

Roswell UFO Festival

Join UFO fans at the three-day Roswell UFO Festival (July 5–7) for lots of cool, free events, including human and pet costume contests, a light parade, and making alien hats. The city of Roswell is known as the UFO capital of the world. Besides the aliens, you can check out the live entertainment, talks by guest speakers, the Roswell Planetarium, and the UFO Museum.

New Mexico State Fair

From September 5–15, the fun and festivity of the annual New Mexico State Fair comes to Albuquerque. Fair highlights include carnival rides and games, rodeos, performances by country music stars, Aztec and Apache dancers, cake and pie contests, horse shows, pig races, magic shows, and karaoke singing contests.

Fall

Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium

At this October 10–13 festival in Ruidoso Downs, you can learn about the cowboy way of life, listen to cowboy poets and country music entertainers, enjoy a world championship chuck-wagon cook-off, and watch horse demonstrations and competitions. Vendors will be selling Western gear, including saddles, clothing, boots, jewelry, and art.

Winter

The Ruidoso Festival of Lights, Parade of Lights, and After Party

This festive celebration on December 7 is held in the village of Ruidoso in the southern-central part of the Land of Enchantment. It includes a parade with fun, holiday-themed floats that are covered in lights. The after party in Wingfield Park is free to attend, and features food, drinks, Santa, and a holiday-themed movie shown on a big, outdoor screen.

The National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show

When it comes to spicy foods, some like it hot, hotter, and hottest! That's where the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show packs a powerful punch. Winter winds down with a spicy bang when the show kicks off in Albuquerque in early March 2020. Attendees can sample dishes and sauces ranging from relish, salsa, hot sauces, barbecue sauce, and chili to sausages, chocolates, syrups, and beverages. You can also learn how to make your own barbecue by watching the pros do it. Food fight competitions, where chefs compete using mystery ingredients, bring hot to a new level.
